Founded to fill the gap

Founded by Dave Sutter, Jeff Handler and Tom Niermann, and backed by Sino Global Capital and Circle Ventures, to connect stablecoins to high-quality real-world assets.

First vault goes live

OpenTrade launched its first production vault in January, then raised a $7M seed round from a16z Crypto, Albion, CMCC and others.

Building momentum

Platforms and businesses kept coming back for more vaults, and TVL passed $100M by December.

Stablecoin yield at scale

A $17M strategic round in May brought total funding to $32M. OpenTrade has since passed $300M in TVL and more than $1B in transaction volume over the past 12 months.

Sebastien Van Schalkwyk

Head of Marketing

Sebastien heads up marketing at OpenTrade, after leading the function at Cryptio and Coincover. Before that, he was Managing Director at Onbe, a global payments company, where he led the international business and helped take it to a successful exit. He’s a Chartered Marketer and trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in his spare time, so marketing isn’t the only thing he hits hard.

Noam Bason

Director of IT and Security

Noam is Director of IT and Security at OpenTrade, with more than 16 years protecting companies from attack. He's held security leadership roles at Fireblocks, Axonius, and CME Group. Outside work, he sings, skateboards, and takes his photography as seriously as his security.

Adam Van Der Beek

Head of Product Strategy

Adam started as an engineer and moved into product to shape what gets built. He’s spent six years building products for blockchain infrastructure, and at OpenTrade he shapes the product roadmap. He once played drums in a dance-pop cover band that sold out Hard Rock Cafe Boston. Now he sets the tempo for OpenTrade’s product releases.

Joe Foster

Director of Product Management

Joe started in traditional finance, with five years at Barclays before building the risk function at an SME lender. He’s since helped launch Cred Protocol’s onchain credit score and was Product Lead at Credora, building tools to analyze yield. A theology graduate and Arsenal fan, he’s used to keeping the faith.

Ronnie Jaworek

Global Head of Business Development

Ronnie is the Global Head of Business Development at OpenTrade, and an award-winning sales leader. She brings institutional experience from Zodia Custody and Standard Chartered, where she helped build the agency securities lending business from scratch. Outside work, she runs ultramarathons, so going the extra mile(s) for clients comes naturally. She also claims to have perfected sourdough. Oh, and she has a master’s in astrophysics.

Maxime de Guillebon

COO

Maxime launched Zodia Custody, the institutional digital asset custodian backed by Standard Chartered, and was Head of Digital Asset Product at BNY Mellon. He’s spent 19 years in financial services, from Ripple to leadership roles at Standard Chartered across Vietnam, Singapore, Dubai, and London. A keen rugby player, he’s just as effective on the pitch as off it.

Jeff Handler

CCO and Co-Founder

Jeff is co-founder and CCO of OpenTrade. He was previously Solutions Architect at Centre, the Circle and Coinbase joint venture that governed USDC, and before that led large multinational credit facilities at the Marco Polo Network, after starting out at PwC. He’s a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. Outside work, he’s a keen gardener, so TVL isn’t the only thing he’s growing.

Dave Sutter

CEO and Co-Founder

Dave is CEO and co-founder of OpenTrade, and has a track record of being early. He built one of the first Bitcoin wallets on iOS in 2013, co-founded Hijro, an early blockchain-based trade finance platform, was Chief Product Officer at the Marco Polo Network, and led network strategy at Centre, the Circle and Coinbase joint venture that governed USDC. College football taught him how to build a team. These days, he plays guitar and owns an unusually large collection of them.

Tom Niermann

CTO and Co-Founder

Tom is co-founder and CTO of OpenTrade. He previously led engineering on Meta’s business products, after roles at Google and as VP of Product and Engineering at Omniscience, where he built AI products for banks and insurers. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois. Outside work, he’s an avid skier and a competitive Rubik’s Cube solver, which might explain why no technical problem stays unsolved for long.
